Inmate of Talisay City police bolts out of custodial facility
BACOLOD City – An inmate of the Talisay City police station detention facility in Negros Occidental escaped Wednesday morning and is now being hunted down.
Arnel Ocaña was a resident of the city’s Barangay Cabatangan.
Talisay City police chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Bayabayan said Ocaña complained he had trouble breathing, prompting the on-duty jailer who was also serving as the station’s desk officer to take him out of the cell and let him lie down in a steel chair.
The jailer returned to his desk to get something and upon returning Ocaña had already disappeared.
Investigators believed Ocaña escaped by climbing up t he wall behind the police station. Based on Ocaña’s criminal record, he had an arrest warrant related to a rape charge in Mandaue City in Cebu.
Ocaña is also the Top 1 stationlevel Most Wanted Individual in Mandaue City.
He was arrested on April 23 after he was tracked down in his home in Barangay Cabatangan.
However, th e Talisay police were unable to transfer Ocaña to the custody of Mandaue City police as some of the station’s personnel were assigned to concentrate on ensuring the security of the May 9th elections.
The jailer, whom Bayabayan refused to identify, has been ordered to submit a written explanation and has been placed on restricted status.
A manhunt operation has been launched./
