205 gun ban violators nabbed

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested 205 violators of the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) gun ban since January.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) had the most number of arrests made (68 persons). It was also able to confiscate 42 guns and 32 bladed weapons.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) netted 36 violators, 25 guns and 12 other weapons.

On the other hand, the Aklan Police Provincial Office (AKPPO) arrested 25 persons and seized seven guns and 19 knives.

The Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) recorded the lowest number of arrests – eight.

It also recovered eight guns and two deadly weapons.

The most recent arrests in the province of Iloilo were from:

* Barangay Hilwan Calinog, Iloilo – Ranel Dalupines, 28; police said he yielded a 12-gauge shotgun.

* Carl Justine Feolog, 18, of Barangay Cagamutan Norte, Leganes Iloilo. He was caught in Barangay Poblacion, Leganes.

The Comelec gun ban started on Jan. 9 and will end on June 8.

During this time, there’s a ban on carrying of firearms and deadly weapons.

On the other hand, PRO6 director, Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo is warning gun holders; the 22 elections may be over but the gun ban is still effective and will end on June 8./
