Bacolod solon seeks to split city into two congressional districts
BACOLOD City – It would be advantageous for this city to have two congressional districts, according to Cong. Greg Gasataya. He is thus refilling his bill calling for such.
In 2019, Gasataya filed House Bill 566 for Bacolod’s redistricting. But it got stuck in the House Committee on Good Government.
Reason: the Sangguniang Panlungsod failed to endorse the bill.
The bill proposed the splitting of the city’s 61 barangays into two legislative districts.
Barangays 1 t o 31, 33, 41, Alangilan, Banago, Bata, Estefania, Granada, Mandalagan, Monte Vista, Villamonte, and Vista Alegre shall comprise the First Legislative District.
On t he other hand, barangays 32, 34 to 40, Alijis, Cabug, Felisa, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Pahanocoy,
Punta Taytay, Singcang, Sumag, Taculing, and Tangub shall comprise the Second Legislative District.
G a s a t a y a s a i d t h e apportionment of Bacolod City into two legislative districts has become a necessity.
“This will ensure that efficient and effective public service is rendered to the whole populace of Bacolod City; so that the city has adequate representation in Congress; and so that Bacolod City will receive its fair share of the national government’s resources,” said Gasataya.
As per 2020 census, this city has a population of 600,783.
Gasataya, who is now on his third and final term in the House, said he already talked about this with Bacolod City mayor-elect Alfredo Benitez and some members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and they agreed that this should be prioritized./
