3 dead, 17 hurt in Pontevedra road accident

CAPIZ – An L300 van figured in an accident in Barangay Binuntucan, Pontevedra town on Wednesday afternoon. Three persons died while 17 others were hurt.

The fatalities were George Acunin, 61, of Barangay San Pedro, Pontevedra; Dich Lovil Villariz, 45, of Barangay Binutuncan, Pontevedra; and Alinalyn Ernesto, 32, of Barangay San Esteban, Pilar town.

Acunin was driving the van. He suddenly fell ill and fainted, initial investigation of the Pontevedra police showed.

The van ran over several persons by the roadside before hitting a mango tree.

The Pontevedra Emergency Response Team (PERT) and Pontevedra Fire Station personnel transported the victims to the Bailan District Hospital.

Several passengers of the van sustained injuries, too.

As of yesterday, according to police investigator Police Corporal Isaiah Don Bornales, 14 of the injured persons have been discharged from the Bailan District Hospital

The three others still hospitalized were a threeyear- old boy, an 11- monthold toddler and a 48-year-old woman./
