IN CAPIZ, CONTRERAS AND TANCO POLITICAL FAMILIES LOSE BIG

-

THIS IS shocking. But the people of Capiz have spoken and their decision must be respected.

Incumbent Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras Jr. was dethroned by Capiz 2nd District congressman Fredenil “Oto” Castro.

Meanwhile, the governor’s father, Pontevedra mayor Esteban Evan “Dodoy” Contreras, also failed in his congressional race against reelectionist Cong. Tawi Billones of the 1st District.

And the losses continue…Nonoy’s brother Steve, an incumbent Provincial Board member, lost his bid for Pontevedra mayor.

Other Contreras family members who suffered election defeat were the governor’s nephew EJ who ran for Sangguniang Bayan member of Pontevedra and the latter’s wife Lara who failed in her bid for a seat in the Sangguniang Bayan of Sapian town.

As for the Tancos, former governor Victor Tanco Sr.’s attempt to return to politics as vice governor of the province was busted by incumbent Vice Gov. James “Mitang” Magbanua.

Tanco’s wife Fatima also lost her reelection bid as town councilor in Dumarao town.

Tanco’s son and namesake, 2nd District Provincial Board member Victor Jr., also failed to get the vice mayoralty position in the same town.

Meanwhile, son-in-law Powell Del Rosario was also defeated in the vice mayoralty race in Roxas City.

Indeed, politics is full of surprises. These are election losses of tsunamic proportions – unprecedented for the Contreras and Tanco clans. For years they dominated Capiz politics. But now, wipe out gid! Grabe!
