Treñas to ‘Kakampinks’: ‘Feel the pain, move on’

-  By Glenda Tayona

ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas, a staunch ally of Vice President Leni Robredo, penned a post- election consoling message to all her “Kakampinks” or supporters.

“The ( election) results are already out. Let us all feel the pain – share it with your families and friends and yet we need to move on,” according to Treñas.

He commended them for not losing their idealism for better governance.

“For the first time, we wanted to do something and ensure that we will elect someone we look up to as president. We printed our own tarps, brought siopao, sandwiches and water to rallies. Had our t-shirts printed. The spirit of volunteerism was very much alive. It felt like a movement rather than a campaign because rallies were led and funded by the people,” according to Treñas.

He expressed hope that the spirit of volunteerism which the Kakampinks have shown during the campaign won’t end.

“... because just like the candidate we supported, I believe that there is a need for us to show up and do something for the community especially in the most trying times,” said Treñas.

He also emphasized the need to do something about the less privileged and to see what else are needed in depressed communities.

“( We need to) organize ourselves and work with rel i gious organizations a n d n o n - g o v e r n men t organizations or l ocal governments to make life a little better for everyone. Let’s help in making life easier for everyone because I know this is what our candidate would also want to happen - whether she’s the president or not,” said Treñas.

In a separate statement, Treñas c o ngra t u l a t e d presumptive presidentelect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and wished him to be surrounded with divine guidance as he leads the entire Filipino community./
