Truck rams jeepney, 2 dead, 20 injured

ILOILO City – A wayward truck rammed a passenger jeepney at an intersecti­on in Barangay San Vicente, Leganes, Iloilo on Saturday. Two people died while 20 others were injured.

The vehicular accident happened at around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday. The jeepney was headed to the town proper of Leganes, according to Police Staff Sergeant Jhon Mark Tuazon of the Leganes police station.

While crossing the intersecti­on, it was plowed by a speeding truck.

“Because of the impact, ang duha ka napatay nagtabog sa karsada, kag ang jeep nagkadto sa talamnanan,” Tuazon said.

The fatalities were Limuel Magbanua, 36, and Rene Magno, 45, both of Barangay Tamuan, Janiuay, Iloilo.

The other in the jeepney survived but complained of varying degrees of injuries: Alma Consular, Gwen Piquierda Legaspi, Annie Magbanua, Maria Lilibeth Consular, Austin Grey, Angel Grace Magbanua, Karen Jaustia, Jelitte Consular, Pacifica Consular, Timothy Agalla, April Joy Chua, Alma Consular, Krizelle Ann Magante, Lera Consular, Beth Parpa, Paul Christian Parpa, Carl Silviderio, Rene Parpa, Gwen Legaspi,and Nicco Junio.

The truck driver, Ivan Casabuena, 33, of Calinog, Iloilo was taken to the Leganes police station. According to Casabuena, he lost control of his truck.

“Hambal sang driver sang truck indi nya na ma- control ang truck. Pero may witnesses naga siling nga nagapakare­ra si Casabuena kag ang isa pa gid ka truck driver,” said Tuazon./
