‘Limpyo Eleksyon’ collects 2,900 kg campaign waste

ILOILO – The provincewi­de post- election cleanup drive “Limpyo Eleksyon” has so far gathered 2,900 kilograms of campaign wastes in 43 towns and the component city of Passi.

Ac c o r di n g t o M i t z i P e ñ a f l o r i d a , s e n i o r environmen­tal management specialist of the Provincial Government Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), the wastes gathered so far were from the following districts:

* 1st District – 28 sacks of tarpaulins and plastic posters

* 2nd District – 967 kg of tarpaulins, plastic posters including bamboo poles, wires and binders

* 3rd District – 1,220 kg of tarpaulins and plastic streamers

* 4th District – 345 kg of plastics, bamboo poles and sticks

* 5th District – 284 kg of tarpaulins, plastic posters,

bamboo sticks and staple wires

Pe ñ a f l o r i d a s a i d t h e Municipal Environmen­t and Natural Resources Offices ( MENROs) were tasked to determine which of the wastes collected could be recycled or disposed outright.

Those for disposal must be done so in accordance with Republic Act 9003 or

the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and Republic Act 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of 1990, she stressed.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. ordered “Limpyo Eleksyon” via Executive Order No. 265 that made as partners for the cleanup national government

agencies, local government units, political parties, partylist organizati­ons, candidates and other entities t hat participat­ed in the elections.
