BIG ELECTION UPSET IN KABANKALAN CITY

-

FOR MANY, many years the Zaycos dominated the political landscape of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental.

Siling gani sang mga may edad na, only two names nagabulos-bulos pungko mayor sa Kabankalan – Isidro and Pedro. It is the people of Kabankalan who decide this every election and they seem satisfied and comfortable with their choice.

This May 2022 elections, however, the people of Kabankalan decided to try something new – or someone else.

But the votes were close. Incumbent Mayor Pedro Zayco got 36,889 votes while the eventual winner, Benjie Miranda, got 36,611 votes – a little over 200 votes ang abanse.

Usually, in close election results such as this, the losing party files an election protest and seeks a recount of votes kay basi magbaliskad pa ang payâ. But not in Kabankalan City.

Madamo ang nagadayaw sa ginhimo ni Mayor Pedro. He immediately conceded to Mayor-elect Benjie after the votes were counted. A true gentleman, indeed.

But for how long will a Miranda mayorship last? Maka- second term sia ayhan sa 2025 election?

This remains to be seen. His performance will surely be watched from now on until the next election. His fate will be determined by how he manages Kabankalan City Masadya ini! Say mo, Gov. Bong?
