- By Glenda Tayona

ILOILO City – Western Visayas l ogged i t s t hree f i rst cases of Omicron subvariant BA. 2.12.1, two of which were deemed l ocal transmissions from the municipalities of Pavia and Zarraga in Iloilo province while the other case was a returning overseas Filipino (ROF).

Omicron is a variant of SARS- CoV- 2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The Department of Health (DOH) described the Omicron subvariant BA. 2.12.1 as highly transmissible.

A COVID- 19 case i s deemed a l ocal transmission if it could not be epidemiologically linked to cases with significant international travel history.

One of the two local cases was a 69-year-old male. He was hospitalized in Iloilo province on May 5 and underwent a swab test on May 6.

Mindanao Network capture the Ilonggo market with a combined listenership of 86%.

Station Manager Ronel Sorbito said, “The current lineup of RMN anchormen

is too much for its competitors to bear. It’s like an Olympic dream team where the best of the best in the industry are gathered to play under one team.”

RMN DYRI Iloilo’s anchormen include Benroy Bernal, Eric John Pamplona, Novie Guazo, Regan Arlos, Ronel Sorbito, Don Dolido, Henry Lumawag, and Emerson Labrillaso. All of them were

once competing against each other and carry the ratings of their respective previous radio stations but had decided to work together under RMN.

“The merger of brains of five station managers and three program directors from various radio networks makes a formidable news team,” said Novie Guazo, program director.

The 2022 second quarter survey validates the immediate past result in the same period in 2021 when RMN DYRI also emerged No. 1 with a captured listenership share of 68.72%. The radio station posted in its official Facebook page “DYRI 774 Iloilo” that it dedicates its dominant presence in radio listenership to the Ilonggos here and abroad as well as its advertisers for the continued trust and confidence.

RMN’s current state of salary and benefits for its anchormen and most of its news personnel have accelerated through time and now at pace with that of seafarers in order to keep its programming independent and free from external pressures./
