Crimes in Western Visayas down 12.74%
ILOILO City – Western Visayas remains generally peaceful.
“Focus crimes” were down 12.74 (623 incidents) in the first quarter of 2022 from 714 cases recorded in the same period 2021.
The “focus crimes” were murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, hijacking of cars and motorcycles.
All provinces and cities’ focus crimes decreased except for Capiz and Bacolod City, data from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed.
Here’s the breakdown comparing the first quarters of 2021 and 2022: * Aklan – 60 in 2021; 47 in 2022 * Antique – 48 in 2021; 41 in 2022 * Capiz – 70 in 2021; 84 in 2022 * Guimaras -- 23 in 2021; 20 in 2022 * Iloilo province – 152 in 2021 to 134 in 2022
* Negros Occidental – 161 in 2021; 145 in 2022
* Bacolod City – 70 in 2021; 71 in
2022
* Iloilo City – 130 in 2021; 81 in 2022.
The region’s total crime incidents in the first quarter of the year tallied to 5,151 – lower by 75 incidents or 1.43
percent compared to the same period in 2021 (5,226).
“These gains were achieved because of your cooperation and effort in implementing the peace and order programs of the Philippine
National Police in collaboration with supportive communities, local government units and other government agencies,” said Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, Western Visayas police director./
