ILOILO City – This city will again open its borders to eggs and day-old chicks from areas not affected by the avian Influenza or bird flu.

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, he would issue a new executive order.

“Nagabatyag na subong ang aton nga industry kay diutay ang gasulod nga oneday old chicks. Importante na para sa pagkaon,” he said.

He said that allowing the entry of egg commodities and day-old chicks will help poultry farmers. It has been almost a month when these commodities were banned from entering in the city.

However, Treñas assured the public that the city will continue to adhere to the safety protocols set by the Department of Agriculture as far as bird flu is concerned.

“We continue to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture para mapa seguro ta nga indi kasulod ang bird flu diri sa aton sa syudad kag probinsya sang Iloilo,” said Treñas.

City Veterinarian Dr. To m a s Fo r t e z a e c h o e d Treñas and said that among the protocols needed are t he proper disinfection of products as well as the logistics used to deliver them.

“We will allow the entry provided that we will comply all the requirements and papers,” said Forteza.
