Cop in buy-bust faces dismissal
ILOILO City – A police officer arrested in a buy-bust operation faces dismissal from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and his benefits forfeited.
Police Staff Sergeant Igmedio Cristobal, a 40-year-old resident of Barangay Jereos, La Paz district, will be administratively charged for conduct unbecoming of a police officer and violation of the
Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
These charges are grave, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Cristobal was arrested by the PRO- 6’ s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit on May 22 in Barangay North Fundidor, Molo district. He yielded 17 sachets of suspected shabu valued at P374,000.
P N P o f f i c e r - i n - c h a rg e Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr. on Monday warned police personnel still involved in the illegal drug trade to stop or he will “change” their lives.
“Yung mga iba dyan, na hanggang ngayon ay ayaw tumigil sa pag- proliferate ng illegal na droga. I would like to address this to the men in uniform of the [PNP]. Meron pa rin sa atin, mangilan-ngilan, I’m giving you stern warning, nakiki-usap ako sa inyo, please put a stop to these illegal drug menace,” Danao said.
He added: “I’m giving you a stern warning. Ayaw ninyong magbago? Babaguhin ko ‘yong buhay ninyo, kung hindi ninyo babaguhin, palitan ko ‘ yong birthday ninyo. Hindi ako nagbibiro,” he added.
Danao said he knows those who have been accused of participating in the illicit activity, adding that he would go after them whether he gets promoted as a PNP chief or not./
