ILOILO – Persons with disability ( PWDs) received wheelchairs and assistive devices from the provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and its partner, Latter Day Saint Charities Philippines.

Ann Rapunzel “Rara” Ganzon, Development Management Officer 2 and spokesperson of the PSWDO, said the distribution of wheelchairs and assistive devices amounting to P2.9 million began on Tuesday, May 16, at the Banate town gym for PWDs from the 4th District and at the Leganes gym yesterday for the 2nd District.

On Monday, May 22, the PSWDO will go to Guimbal for PWDs from the 1st District.

On June 8, 3rd District recipients will receive wheelchairs and assistive devices at the Badiangan gym while the 5th District beneficiaries will receive theirs on June 16 at the Balasan gym.

“The Iloilo provincial government, under the leadership of Gov. To to Defensor Jr., and PSWDO under Ma’ am Sarah Magalona Barayuga, would like to thank the Latter Day Saint Charities Philippines for its continuous support and partnership through the provision of wheelchairs and assistive devices for qualified persons with disability beneficiaries of the province,” said Ganzon.

The PSWDO officer said the provincial government continues to strengthen its networking and linkages in the promotion of inclusive and barrier- free programs, projects, and services for PWDs.

Republic Act 7277, or the Magna Carta for the Disabled, “states that the rehabilitation of disabled persons shall be the concern of the government to foster their capacity to attain a more meaningful, productive, and satisfying life.”
