ILONGGOS NOSTALGIC OF FORMER COUNCILOR PLARIDEL NAVA

-

THE PEOPLE of Iloilo City are now realizing they have lost someone very valuable. With the smart, probing, principled, and vocal former councilor Plaridel Nava quitting the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the city council feels very different and strange.

Councilor Pla acted as a counterbalance, ensuring that decisions made by the council or by the executive branch were scrutinized. Now, without him, not a few fear there is a risk that council decisions could be made without full transparency. City government officials might not be held accountable for their actions, leading to potential misuse of power. Tonto!

When city council decisions are made without thorough examination, the reasons behind those decisions can remain opaque to both council members and the public. This can erode trust in the institution.

A lack of oversight and scrutiny can open the door for corrupt practices. When officials feel that their actions aren’t being monitored or questioned, there may be fewer deterrents against unethical behavior.

Ayon sa aming bubuwit, Ilonggos are longing for the return of Councilor Pla because he enriches the city council with his wisdom, courage, intelligence, and unique perspective.

Without the benefit of diverse perspectives and rigorous examination by the city council, the city government’s policies may not be as well-thought-out or effective. This can lead to suboptimal outcomes for the city.

And without incisive members like Councilor Pla, there’s a risk of the city council becoming an “echo chamber” where only one viewpoint or set of ideas is considered. This lack of diverse input can hinder comprehensive and balanced policy-making. Rubberstamp ang konseho! Haslo!
