CLSU community, barangay leaders learn about disaster risk reduction management
WHAT should one do during the onset of calamities and disasters? This was the question addressed in the Disaster Risk Reduction Management seminar sponsored by the Central Luzon State University at the RET Amphitheater last Feb. 22.
Conducted in response to the recent natural calamities experienced in the country, the seminar aimed to create awareness on disaster risk reduction management among CLSU faculty, staff and stu- dents as well as community leaders of the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
Dr. Melissa E. Agulto, professor of the College of Engineering and expert on meteorology, discussed disaster risks and other information such as thunderstorms, cold fronts, monsoon rains, inter-tropical convergence zone and tropical cyclone in “Hydro-meteorological Phenomena and Hazards.” “Ang taong laging handa sa sakuna’y walang panama,” Dr. Agulto em- phasized in her discussion cum visuals.
Additional information about typhoon, lightning and flood safety tips was presented by Prof. Maria Corazon M. Vera Cruz, chief of Training Administration and Marketing Services of the CLSU Training Office.
Participants expressed their appreciation for receiving timely and important knowledge on disaster risk reduction and management through the seminar.
