THE INFORMATION Technology (IT) department of FEATI University has forged a partnership with Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) and Spiceworx, a Filipino-japanese partnership that provides unique and high value-added services founded on deep knowledge and expertise in IT, IT Services and BPO industries, to assist students wanting to go beyond theoretical knowledge offered in the classroom.

Two senior IT students in particular-dominique “Nikki” Joy Marasigan and Jinno Penolio—were given the opportunity to participate in and complete a 7-day “Joint Global Business Training Program for Filipino and Japanese IT Professionals” at the AIM Conference Center in Makati City.

The objective of the training program was to expose IT students on current global business mind sets and skill sets while serving as a platform for establishing a network and reaching mutual understanding among Japanese and Filipino IT professionals, considering that the two countries are already partners in business.

During the course of the training program, the students learned how to work with another team with a different cultural mind set and work ethics. The FEATI students hurdled with aplomb mental and physical tasks that earned points that added to their team standing on a daily basis.

The Filipino students also got practical tips on asserting ideas and packaging sales presentations. Each day for them meant informative lectures, interactive role plays, and physical exercises.

“We are proud of Nikki and Jinno for this big step, and extremely thankful to PSITE NCR and Spiceworx for helping institutional members like FEATI. The access that they have so generously provided to us pays off for our students. The take-away here is that Nikki and Jinno came out of the training program more secure and more capable students. The IT department’s goal in 2012 is to widen our scope of partnerships so that more students can secure training programs that are practically free-of-charge,” stated Engineer Jovy Lopez-factor, chairperson of FEATI University’s IT department. FEU MASS Communication graduate Jet Leyco made a mark in the 41st International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), Germany, held early this year where two of his films were screened. IFFR is hailed as the Netherland’s counterpart of the Cannes Film Festival. “Patlang,” a 15-minute film that won Grand Prize at the DAKILA Alab Short Film Festival in UP Cine Adarna last December 2010, was screened three times and warmly accepted by the audience and critics. Leyco says he is proud to have shown the film to an audience with a different perspective. “Patlang” has its own significance, a socio-political subtext that everyone could relate to its powerful meaning.” Notably, Leyco was the youngest among the Filipino participants in the IFFR. He is thankful and humbled that he has made a name in the local and international film circles. The former vice president of the FEU Film Society also comes back to the university from time to time to share his knowledge and experiences with students.
