ACOPEI slates 2nd nat’l conference April 11 to 13
DOCUMENTING De La Salle University’s 100 years in high style is a 320- page publication entitled “The Future Begins Here,” the university’s centennial edition coffee table book. It was recently unveiled before university administrators, alumni, and partners at the Manila Polo Club in Makati.
The book’s unique nonchronological format walks viewers through hundreds of images of DLSU throughout the century, accompanied by essays from respected writers and media veterans.
Various themes, all paying tribute to the rich Lasallian heritage, play out in each of the book’s nine sections: Band of Brothers by Jose “Butch” Dalisay; Heritage, Heroism, History: The St. La Salle Hall by Augusto Villalon; Movers of Growth and Progress: Lasallians in Business and The Lasallian Public Servant by Elfren Cruz and Leandro Cruz; Shooting for Excellence in Sports by Joaquin Henson; Social Sciences and Education in DLSU by Renato de Castro; On the Cutting Edge: Science and Technology by Alvin Culaba; Arts and Culture in the Lasallian Spirit by Carla Pacis; and La Salle’s Green Champions by Charlson Ong. Isagani Cruz wrote the Prologue and Epilogue.
Design house Studio 5 was commissioned to publish the book, in coordination with the DLSU Centennial Executive Committee and the Office for Strategic Communications.
Net proceeds of the book will go to the One La Salle Scholarship fund, the centerpiece project of the DLSU centennial celebration, which aims to raise P2 billion to support 18,000 scholars in La Salle schools nationwide. THE ASSOCIATION of Cultural Offices of Philippine Educational Institutions, Inc. (ACOPEI) will hold its 2nd National Conference at The Bayleaf, Intramuros, Manila. There will also be a workshop to discuss ways to improve the current practices of programming and training in schools. The conference aims to: 1) spark the participants’ enthusiasm in strengthening culture and arts in their respective campuses with inputs from cultural authorities in the field; 2) provide cultural educators and officers in the academe with additional knowledge on artistic programming, production management, financial management and audience development; 3) provide venues for discussion regarding ways in improving the current practices of cultural programming and artistic training in schools; 4) define the status of cultural promotion and arts education in the schools by defining the challenges being faced by the cultural officers in the academe particularly in developing programs and activities to harness a creative campus environment; and 5) introduce the aims and programs of the Association of Cultural Offices of Philippine Educational Institutions to the participants.
