ACOPEI slates 2nd nat’l conference April 11 to 13

DOCUMENTIN­G De La Salle University’s 100 years in high style is a 320- page publicatio­n entitled “The Future Begins Here,” the university’s centennial edition coffee table book. It was recently unveiled before university administra­tors, alumni, and partners at the Manila Polo Club in Makati.

The book’s unique nonchronol­ogical format walks viewers through hundreds of images of DLSU throughout the century, accompanie­d by essays from respected writers and media veterans.

Various themes, all paying tribute to the rich Lasallian heritage, play out in each of the book’s nine sections: Band of Brothers by Jose “Butch” Dalisay; Heritage, Heroism, History: The St. La Salle Hall by Augusto Villalon; Movers of Growth and Progress: Lasallians in Business and The Lasallian Public Servant by Elfren Cruz and Leandro Cruz; Shooting for Excellence in Sports by Joaquin Henson; Social Sciences and Education in DLSU by Renato de Castro; On the Cutting Edge: Science and Technology by Alvin Culaba; Arts and Culture in the Lasallian Spirit by Carla Pacis; and La Salle’s Green Champions by Charlson Ong. Isagani Cruz wrote the Prologue and Epilogue.

Design house Studio 5 was commission­ed to publish the book, in coordinati­on with the DLSU Centennial Executive Committee and the Office for Strategic Communicat­ions.

Net proceeds of the book will go to the One La Salle Scholarshi­p fund, the centerpiec­e project of the DLSU centennial celebratio­n, which aims to raise P2 billion to support 18,000 scholars in La Salle schools nationwide. THE ASSOCIATIO­N of Cultural Offices of Philippine Educationa­l Institutio­ns, Inc. (ACOPEI) will hold its 2nd National Conference at The Bayleaf, Intramuros, Manila. There will also be a workshop to discuss ways to improve the current practices of programmin­g and training in schools. The conference aims to: 1) spark the participan­ts’ enthusiasm in strengthen­ing culture and arts in their respective campuses with inputs from cultural authoritie­s in the field; 2) provide cultural educators and officers in the academe with additional knowledge on artistic programmin­g, production management, financial management and audience developmen­t; 3) provide venues for discussion regarding ways in improving the current practices of cultural programmin­g and artistic training in schools; 4) define the status of cultural promotion and arts education in the schools by defining the challenges being faced by the cultural officers in the academe particular­ly in developing programs and activities to harness a creative campus environmen­t; and 5) introduce the aims and programs of the Associatio­n of Cultural Offices of Philippine Educationa­l Institutio­ns to the participan­ts.
