UP Pep Squad named Youth Icons

-

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad will be rallying young people as Sun Cellular’s Youth Icons, a title given to a group of young, unique and passionate achievers who epitomize the brand’s personality.

The UP Pep, which is known for breathtaking stunts and smooth moves as it rallies the UP Fighting Maroons, has earned accolades for the school and the country.

For the past seven years, it has often been the team to beat in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Cheerdance competition.

The squad was champion in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2010 and, most recently, 2011. It won recently the bronze medal in the mixed team category at the 6th Cheerleading World Championships in Hong Kong.

Jocel Adorable, Sun Cellular’s assistant vice president for marketing services, said the network was proud and happy to welcome the UP Pep Squad to the Sun family. She said the group represented what Sun Cellular was all about insofar as the youth was concerned.

UP Pep’s selection was announced during the Elevate: Lift One Another Up, the annual music and dance concert held at the UP Theater. The UP Pep Squad interpreted the Sun Text Unlimited Power Move with style, confidence and energy.

Coach Lalaine Pereña said the team was truly honored by its selection and expressed the hope they would live up to Sun Cellular’s expectations.

Sun and UP Pep’s yearlong partnership started with a onetime sponsorship. The collaboration started with this year’s ELEV80S Concert.

With Sun Cellular supporting the UP Pep Squad’s numerous activities for a year, Pereña said communication among members would be more efficient and seamless given Sun’s unlimited calls and texts which the entire team could now enjoy. Sun Power Text Unlimited 200 comes with 30 days of unlimited Sun texts, four hours of Sun calls and 500 texts to other networks, enabling the team members to call each other and coordinate their schedules.

Pereña said Sun Cellular took pride in its power to improve the way people communicated. Like Sun, she said the UP Pep had that power.

She said UP Pep and Sun Cellular were a powerful team with strong and energetic moves.
