Dominic Rubio and Frederick Peralta collaborate in ‘Artes’
FASHION and art combine in “Artes,” a collaboration between renowned painter Dominic Rubio and awardwinning fashion designer Frederick Peralta, on June 28, with the works on display until July 4.
“Artes” will be held at the Atrium of The Podium along ADB Avenue in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
Rubio is distinguished for his nostalgic paintings. His subjects of elongated features decked in incredibly detailed Hispanic period costumes against the quaint backgrounds of colonial times are celebrated throughout the art community, and has made him one of the most soughtafter artists in the country.
Rubio has also seen his works exhibited at critically lauded shows in Hong Kong, Singapore, Toronto and New York. His works have been auctioned at the leading auction houses in Asia.
Peralta won the Asean Design Competition in Singapore in 1990 and the Internacional Concour des Jeunes Creatuer de Mode in 1994.
For the latter, he was invited to present his collection in Paris together with Paco Rabanne, John Louise Scherer, Ted Lapidus and Ross Met.
Peralta was recently named one of the Top 5 Asia designers during the Fashion Asia Awards 2011 in Beijing.
Featured in the exhibition are recent works by Rubio inspired by the couture designs of Peralta.
Peralta himself also takes a cue from the visual complexity of Rubio’s nostalgic Filipiniana costumes, creat- ing new works inspired by Rubio and presenting them in a fashion show, to be directed by Robby Carmona.
“Artes” is presented by Galerie Stephanie with Contemporary Art Philippines magazine and Café de Bonifacio. Call tel. 632-7091488. Visit www.galeriestephanie.com.
