TECHNOLOGICAL innovation in education is changing the way techsavvy students learn. Recognizing this, Miriam College has partnered with Acer Philippines, Inc. and Creative Technologies, Inc. for its supply of tablet personal computers for its e-learning tool project.

Under the project, the school introduced the use of Acer Iconia A200 tablet PCs to a pilot batch of first year high school students, including their faculty and administrators.

The new partnership was sealed through a contract signing ceremony held last June 1 with Creative Technologies Inc. vice president Ja- cob Dy, Miriam College president Dr. Rosario O. Lapus, and Acer Philippines general manager Manuel Wong.

Apart from being a highly-effective medium of teaching and communication, the tablet PC is also an interactive tool that will help students organize their work, collabo- rate with others, communicate with teachers, and create multimedia presentations and projects.

Before the opening of classes, the high school faculty underwent intensive training for both the use of the tablet and the Genyo e-learning system, the first and only fully-integrated online learning management system for basic education in the Philippines.

Publishers were also tapped to provide the necessary e-books and online resources. This project has undergone extensive research before implementation to match the design for the tablet’s effective use. UP MINDANAO BS Architecture 2010 graduate Alexis Ken S. Cartajenas earned second place in the June 2012 Architecture Licensure Examination. Architect Cartajenas earned a passing mark of 83.50 percent, closely following the first placer’s mark of 83.80 percent. The Architecture Board reported that UP Mindanao has had a total of 16 Architecture graduates who passed the Architecture Licensure Examination with a zero number of fail or repeaters, for a continuing passing rate of 100 percent. Another UP Mindanao Architecture graduate, architect Jeremy Roy Sanchez, earned fifth place in the same exam in 2010. UP Mindanao’s Department of Architecture was created by the UP Board of Regents on June 4, 2012 after being part of the Department of Humanities in previous years.
