LPU’S Valera chosen in Japan exchange program
ALBERT Jay Valera, BS Criminology III student and a student assistant at Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, was chosen as one of the goodwill ambassadors of the Philippines to Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (Jenesys) program held in Japan from April 15 to 25. Valera was one among the 99 students from all over the country chosen after meticulous screening by the National Youth Commission (NYC) to be a Philippine-Tohuko Goodwill Ambassador through the exchange program. The 99 student ambassadors were grouped into four batches; Valeras’s group was named Teamaichi Philippines. Jenesys is a project sponsored by the Japanese government to provide a sound foun- dation for strong solidarity within Asia through large-scale youth exchange. Since 2007, Jenesys has been carrying out exchange programs aimed at promoting mutual understanding and friendly relations with Japanese youth and citizens. As one of the implementing organizations for this program, Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) is in charge of conducting the program in cooperation with various local governments, schools and international exchange organizations in each area in cooperation with the Philippine government and NYC. Among the various Jenesys activities include school visit, home stay, local interaction, workshops, Japanese culture experience, and discussion of environmental issues in Japan. Jenesys is participated by ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and the Philippines.
