Entries accepted for Shell’s students art contest
YOUNG artists may now submit their entries to the 2012 Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC).
Provincial entries will be accepted Aug. 1-3 at Museo Iloilo, Anthill Fabric Gallery, Gallery Orange, Gen. Luna Gallery, and Shell provincial depots and installations.
In Metro Manila, entries may be submitted Aug. 9-11 at Shell Art House (in front of St. Paul’s University), 698 Aurora Blvd., New Manila, Quezon City.
Winners will receive cash, plaques and other prizes.
The competition is open to college students with an academic load of at least 12 units this school year. It has four open-themed categories—oil/acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, and digital fine arts. The fifth category, the calendar, has, for its theme this year, “Buhay Makulay.”
Contestants must offer a fresh view of the many wonders of the Philippines, such as natural sites and man-made structures, time-honored traits, or unique customs and traditions.
Past first prize winners may join other categories, except the one where they won previously. Participants may submit up to two entries either in the same category or two different categories.
Started as a search for artists to make the artwork for Shell calendars, the 45-year-old NSAC is the Philippines’ longest-running national students art contest.
Former participants include National Artists Jose Joya and Ang Kiukok, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, BenCab (Benedicto Cabrera) and Juvenal Sanso.
Program partners are Shell V-Power, Shell Helix, Shell Fuel Oil Plus, Shell Fuel Serve, and Shell Advance, in cooperation with Air21, Canson, Winsor and Newton, Lefranc & Bourgeois, National Bookstore, and Ayala Museum.
