Benchingko filmfest celebrates Bench’s 25th year

The short film festival may set trends yet again.

A musical trilogy featuring Lovi Poe. Each short episode takes the audience into the different stories that can happen on a bed—a virgin’s coming of age, a husband’s lethal frustratio­n and a dying man’s wish. Directed by Borgy Torre.

A dramatic and thrilling look into the dark world of jeepney drag racing. Starring Coco Martin as Rogelio, a down-on-his-luck driver revving up for the race of his life and the trophy of his dreams. Borgy Torre directs.

The greatest kontrabida of all time, Bella Flores, gives lessons on how to be an effective villain. This laugh-a-second piece will remind everyone why Bella is a legend. Directed by veteran filmmaker Joey Reyes.

The lovely Lucy TorresGome­z takes us to her beloved city of Ormoc. This travel documentar­y features Lucy staging a puppet show to teach school kids the importance of protecting the environmen­t. It is shot in the school put up by Lucy with Bench. Directed by Marla Ancheta.

Piolo Pascual is imprisoned in a carnival of deformity that presents him as “The Freak.” This is a unique love story that reminds the audience that beauty is indeed in the eyes of the beholder. A short film by Toppel Lee.

Benchingko Films premieres July 27, 6 p.m., Center Stage, SM Mall of Asia. The red carpet unfurls at 6 p.m. The Bench celebritie­s in the films will grace the event with other Bench endorsers.
