RTU, DLSZ barge into ‘WNC’ semis
DEFENDING champions Rizal Technological University and De La Salle Zobel clinched semifinal slots over the weekend in the 43rd WNCAA tournament.
RTUsurvived San Beda-Alabang, 25-23, 1825, 21-25, 25-15, 15-13, at St. Scholastica Manila gym to arrange a semifinal showdown with Centro Escolar University in senior volleyball.
Miriam College and Philippine Women’s University will dispute the other finals slot.
Host DLSZ stunned defending champion Miriam in the midgets semifinals, 25-14, 2521, and will take on San Beda in the finals on Oct. 13. San Beda advanced to the finals after a 25-21, 25-21 victory over Poveda in the tournament supported by Goody, Mikasa, Molten, MJC Photography, network partner AKTV and radio partner Monster Radio RX 93.1.
In the quarterfinals of junior basketball, played at RTU gym in Mandaluyong, DLSZ dumped St. Jude Catholic School, 52-21, to set up a semifinal duel on Saturday with Assumption College, which won by forfeiture over Angelicum College.
Miriam eliminated San Beda, 55-34, and will have Chiang Kai Shek College as its semifinal opponent. CKSC bested La Salle College Antipolo, 61-45, in their quarterfinal match.
RTU, also the defending senior futsal champion, emerged No. 1 to make the semifinals against No. 4 University of Asia and the Pacific. No. 2 Emilio Aguinaldo College and No. 3 PWUwill collide in the other Final Four schedule on Sunday.
The junior division semifinals will have fourtime defending champion DLSZ taking on San Beda and Miriam going up against Angelicum.
