PBA opening draws high TV ratings

THE 38th season of the Philippine Basketball Associatio­n is off to a good start, if TV ratings are the basis.

According to Nielsen Media, the opening game between Barangay Ginebra and Global Port had an average rating of 2.7 percent or over 1.1 million viewers, an increase of 31 percent in viewership compared to last year’s opening.

Smart Araneta Coliseum was also packed to the rafters with 18,901 spectators in attendance.

Barangay Ginebra Kings cruised to an easy victory over newcomer Global Port, 110-90, win last Sunday. LA Tenorio made his Ginebra debut and won best player honors after logging two points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Mark Caguioa scored 18 points and led six players in double figures.

The PBA is aired over AKTV on IBC-13 and produced by Sports5, the sports arm of TV5.
