Jobless man leaves cryptic suicide note

- Kristine Felisse Mangunay Jeannette I. Andrade

“EXSANGUINATION failed so let’s try defenestration.” With this cryptic handwritten message, the police ruled out foul play in the death of Roberto Aragon, 35, a jobless man who plunged from the fifth floor of a mall’s parking lot in Pasig City yesterday. Senior Supt. Mario Rariza, city police chief, said they found the note in the victim’s motorcycle which was parked a few meters away from the spot where he fell. His body was found in the basement parking lot of Robinsons Metro East at 12:45 a.m. yesterday. “The victim’s relatives confirmed that it was his handwriting on the note,” Rariza said. Exsanguination refers to massive blood loss due to external or internal hemorrhage while defenestration means throwing a person or thing out of a window. Rariza said that the victim had earlier attempted to kill himself by slashing his wrists. According to the police official, it seemed the victim had been depressed for quite some time because he could not find a job. CLASSES were suspended from the kindergarten to high school levels in private and public schools in Quezon City due to heavy rains which caused flooding in some areas. The announcement, however, was made at 10 a.m., several hours after students were forced to brave the heavy downpour to go to their schools. According to the Quezon City Police District Tactical Operations Center, the nonstop rains led to gutter-deep floods in some thoroughfares in Quezon City although these remained passable to all kinds of vehicles. Only Calamba Street in Barangay Sto. Domingo and Gumamela Street in Roxas District were flooded until noon yesterday in knee-deep water and rendered impassable to light vehicles.
