Understanding the ‘cloud’
Ip-converge embarks on a cloud computing educational campaign
LEADING Internet data center, telecommunications and cloud services provider IP Converge Data Services, Inc. (IP-Converge) moves ahead with its mission to educate organizations and institutions about the basics and benefits of cloud computing, and what goes on “behind the cloud”.
The company recently held cloud computing tutorials for the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology students from the Sta. Cecilia College in Valenzuela City. IP-Converge gave a general overview of cloud computing, discussed its benefits, advantages and reasons for its steady adoption in both the enterprise and public sectors.
Undergraduate students from Sta. Cecilia College were treated to an exclusive tour of the facility, giving them a first-hand idea of what a data center looks like, its purpose, and what measures and processes are taken to ensure its availability, integrity and security. The students were able to see data center operations up close and gain insights on the importance of 24x7 monitoring and management, as well as facilities redundancy and scalability.
“We believe that students comprise an important demographic population as far as cloud computing education is concerned,” adds Huergas. “It will start them early in this new paradigm and they can be instrumental in its ‘evangelization’ to the academe and the workplace later on.”
According to Huergas, IP-Converge has been in the business of enterprise cloud computing even before the term was coined. The data center operator has been hosting private clouds for its customers since its inception in 2005, and subsequently became Philippine partner of NYSE listed cloud computing innovator Salesforce.com in 2007.
IP-Converge will be conducting a free seminar on the same topics especially for SMEs entitled “Achieving Success through Data Center and Cloud Outsourcing” at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 11 at the Ascott Makati. Attendees to this half-day session will learn the basics of cloud computing and data center co-location and how these can help grow their business. Interested parties may e-mail marketing@ip-converge.com to reserve seats.
