‘Don Quixote’ at Aliw Theater

THE SECOND year of prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s “Swan Song Series” begins with her last full-length performanc­e of the classic “Don Quixote” tonight at 7:30 and on Oct. 7, 5:30 p.m., at the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City.

Dancing her signature role of Kitri, Macuja-Elizalde teams up for the first time with Mikhail Martynyuk, principal dancer of the Kremlin Ballet. “Don Quixote” also features Ballet Manila and the Manila Symphony Orchestra with Alexander Vikulov of the Marinsky Theater as guest conductor.

“Swan Song Series” is the Filipina ballerina’s three-year farewell performanc­es of ballet’s most beloved classical roles. The series began last year with “Swan Lake” and “Romeo and Juliet.”

Foster the People at Big Dome

Los Angeles-based indie-pop trio Foster The People performs tomorrow, 8 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Formed in 2009 by Mark Foster (lead vocal), Mark Pontius (drums) and Cubbie Fink (bass), the band broke into the scene with “Pumped Up Kicks,” which Foster posted as a free download on his website. The song went viral and the band garnered enough attention to debut at the South By Southwest (SXSW) festival.

Its 2011 debut album, “Torches,” went to No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Pumped Up Kicks” peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 chart and was the sixth best-selling digital song of the year.

James Morrison

British singer-songwriter James Morrison performs on Oct. 9, 8 p.m., at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Morrison achieved worldwide success in 2006 with the release of his debut single “You Give Me Something.” His first album, “Undiscover­ed,” debuted at the top of the UK album chart and won him a Brit Award in 2007 for best British male solo artist.

Next eliminatio­n round for “The Peninsula Manila’s Sing@Ning” competitio­n will be held Oct. 9, with the top 12 contenders serenading the audience.

Mario O’Hara’s ‘Stageshow’

Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) pays tribute to stage artists of yesteryear­s through its third season offering, Mario O’ Hara’s “Stateshow,” a musical play slated Oct. 10-21, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., at the Cultural Center of the Philippine­s’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino.

The Zombies

The Zombies—who along with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Dave Clark Five, among others, comprised the British music invasion of the 1960s—will have two live performanc­es on Oct. 17 (Waterfront Cebu City hotel) and Oct. 19 (PICC, Pasay City).

With founding members Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone still on board, the band is expected to play its classic hits which include “She’s Not There,” “Tell Her No,” “Time of the Season,” “Miles Away” and “The Way I Feel Inside.”

Folk-rock group America and Hawaiian band Kalapana perform back-to-back on Oct. 17 ( Smart Araneta Coliseum), Oct. 19 (Waterfront Cebu City Hotel) and Oct. 21 (University of Baguio)

America’s debut single, “I Need You,” was a hit in the United States but it was the second single, “A Horse With No Name,” which put the band in the global music limelight.

Kalapana gained a cult following in the Philippine­s for its songs “Naturally” and “The Hurt.”
