‘Tree of Action’ to grace climate change dialogue
THE TREE of Action to Confront Climate Change was unveiled in the lobby of the Department of Foreign Affairs building prior to its transport to and inauguration in Doha, Qatar, at the COP18 UN Conference and the Tri-Continental South-South Dialogue to Defying Disasters to be convened by Climate Change Commissioner Heherson Alvarez.
The Tree of Action was designed by Leni Claudio- Firmacion and Chito Firmacion with Susan Claudio coordinating production. Isabela artist Joel Pragas worked with persons with disabilities through NCDA+ Circle of Friends to create a mural on climate change with the participation of blind singers from Ramon Magsaysay High School.
In a message, Unesco Asia Pacific Bureau Regional Director Dr. Hubert Gijzen applauded the creative communications exhibit of illustrated messages on hand-shaped leaves from the youth sector from the Philippines, Kenya and Colombia. It is complemented by eco music video clips and short films with messages from the UN family.
The Tri-Continental SouthSouth Dialogue on Dec. 7 will delve into innovative solutions and replicable indigenous and science-based models for building resilience to climate change and address the consequences of extreme weather events, such as flooding, landslides and drought common to the Asia Pacific, Arab-Africa and South America-Caribbean regions.
