Tagala holds violin recital

THE GILOPEZ Kabayao Foundation Inc. is presenting the young violinist Jimmy Tagala Jr. in a solo recital on Dec. 2, 3 p.m., at Corazon C. Aquino Hall, St. Scholastic­a’s College, Manila.

Tagala was last featured as soloist with the Philippine Philharmon­ic Orchestra under the baton of Olivier Ochanine at the Cultural Center of the Philippine­s 2012 Namcya Winner’s Concert.

Tagala won the first prize in the Namcya twice—2004 Violin Category B and 2011 Violin Category C. At 15, he was the youngest participan­t to join Asian Youth Orchestra on its 2006 Asian tour.

The following year, barely 16, he had a solo debut concert, performing Beethoven and Khachaturi­an concertos to critical success.

He was later featured in his first solo recital at 17 in a program of Bach, Beethoven, Paganini, Ysaye, Bruch and Sarasate to critical acclaim. He has been invited to perform in Los Angeles, Washington, New York, San Francisco, Seoul, Madrid and Paris, as well as in key cities in the Philippine­s.

He’s pursuing a Diploma Course in Violin at St. Scholastic­a’s College, Manila.

For the Dec. 2 recital, Tagala will be assisted by pianist Corazon Pineda Kabayao in a program consisting of Chaconne by Vitali; Brahm’s Sonata No. 3 in G Minor for violin and piano; Capriccio for solo violin by Jaejoon Ryu; Paganini Caprices Op. 1, Nos. 1 and 10; “Mutya ng Pasig” and “Paruparung Bukid” arrangemen­ts by Gilopez Kabayao; “Havanaise” by Saint-Saens; and “Tzigane” by Ravel.
