‘Bakbakan’ fights sizzle at Ynares today

A HUNDRED fights are expected as the final group of competitor­s plunge into action today in the record-breaking NFGB National Bakbakan 11-Stag Derby at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Twenty-eight participan­ts have so far racked up seven wins each and qualified for the grand finals on Dec. 6 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The latest seven pointers are Rey Briones with his entry Spartan Paraiso II, Mario Victorio (DBJ JMC), JP Briones (JG Hawk), Peping Ricafort (PTK Yucatan), Honorato Domingo (Pops Colalap I), Vice Gov. Vicente Alcala (Vice Gov. Kulit Alcala 3), Boy Asoy (Saling Pusa 1), N. Niernas (Iermon Farm) and the entries Matumtum Blues, JAMJC and Harsy.

The busy “Bakbakan” week began yesterday with 142 fights at Pasig Square Garden. The venue will hold a semifinal round this Thursday.

The competitio­n goes to the Roligon Mega Cockpit tomorrow, with 72 qualifiers disputing slots in the grand finals via the 144-fight 4stag semifinals. Another semifinal round sizzles this Friday at Pasay City Cockpit.

In the provinces, “Bakbakan” will have its regional finals on Nov. 29 at Batac Cockpit and Galleria de Legazpi and on Nov. 30 at Pugo Cockpit and Bacolor Cockpit.
