(Part II)

Q: MY NAILS KEEP breaking. Help!

A: The condition of your nails can tell a story. It also reveals your eating habits. It’s like bone health that depends on your diet. Nail health is the same.

Brittle nails are a sign of deficiencies in calcium, zinc, iron and selenium. Slow nail growth means general malnutrition.

There is one B vitamin that can come to your rescue: biotin. This was discovered in horse stables. Biotin was found useful in helping harden horses’ hooves, would you believe? Biotin is easily absorbed into the nail.

Dietary sources include egg yolk, cereals, yeast, milk, cauliflower, lentils and peanut butter.

Q: There is hypertension in my family. Should I avoid salt as a preventive measure?

A: There is a tragic notion about salt. The general thinking is that it causes the blood pressure to rise. But this thinking is starting to change. David McCarron, M. D., professor of medicine, maintains that people who experience a rise in blood pressure may most likely suffer from too little Sea salt can actually help

reduce blood pressure

potassium, calcium and magnesium.

To do:

Cut calories. Get active. Exercise. Take Omega 3 fatty acids from fish like mackerel and salmon. Stop taking alcohol. Cut down on sugar. If you must take salt, try sea salt. In complimentary medicine, ½ tsp of sea salt taken every two hours with two glasses of water will bring down the blood pressure. This has had positive results.
