Golf F teams retain lead in 63rd Fil-am

BAGUIO CITY—Golf F Team remained on track for the Fil B Seniors crown despite losing four points at the shorter but trickier Baguio Country Club course at the 63rd Fil-Am Invitation­al Golf Tournament here.

On the day Eric Espadero of Summer Capital-East scored the tournament’s first hole-in-one, Golf F carded 78 points on the strength of a 22 each from Flor Fajilan and Connie Uy to post a three-day total of 264 and pace second-running Club Intramuros (82-255) by nine points going in- to today’s final round.

Pines Golf Club of California South was a distant third with 237 after a 79.

Fajilan is in strong contention for the individual title with a pacesettin­g 71 points. His team takes a rest tomorrow and will complete the fourth round on Thursday.

Espadero, the bakeshop owner who baked the Guinness Book of Record’s biggest strawberry cake in 2005, earned a ticket for two to Phuket, Thailand.

He used a Titleist 7-iron and a Titleist Pro-V at the 152-yard hole for his first ever ace.

Golf F Team’s Am B seniors squad also kept its lead with a 74, built around Jun Bucago’s 24, and 236 total, nine clear of Aloha Golf Team (75-227) and 17 ahead of Club Intramuros (75219).

Olivo Ramos’ 26 points paced NBI Golf Team 157-II’s 99 for the day and a 269 total to move past two-day leader Square & Compass Golf of Nueva Ecija 2 which faltered with 79-257 in Fil G.

Cesar Valencirin­a and Tannie Joson had 25 each, while Jose Justo Yap added 23 for the team’s total that overhauled Square & Compass’s eight point lead as play shifted to the BCC course from the par 69 Camp John Hay. layout with a round a to go.

El Kapitan Golf Team had an 84 to remain at third with 245.

Edgardo Cayanga and Jun Tacbanian submitted a similar 22 as Square & Compass NE 2 totaled 226 and retain the Am G lead over Wapinoy Golf Team.

Square & Compass NE 2 leads Wapinoy by 14 shots.
