Vmware appoints new Country Manager

VMware Inc., a leader in virtualiza­tion and cloud infrastruc­ture, has appointed Emmanuel Portugal as country manager in the Philippine­s.

This is a promotion for Portugal who was previously VMware’s Partner Business Manager responsibl­e for leading the company’s local sales and pre-sales team based in Manila. Portugal will lead all aspects of strategic planning, business developmen­t, sales and channels locally. He will report to Nicholas Tan, Asean country manager, VMware, who is based in Singapore.

An experience­d IT profession­al, Portugal has served in sales, marketing and product management, and business developmen­t roles with IBM and Intel, locally and in the Southeast Asia region, prior to joining VMware. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineerin­g from the University of the Philippine­s. grow SEIPI as a benchmark industry organizati­on, primarily serving the interest of the members, as we aim to contribute further to the economic developmen­t of the country,” said Viera, who is managing director of semiconduc­tors manufactur­ing giant Texas Instrument­s in its Philippine operations.

Electronic­s, particular­ly semiconduc­tors, is a major driver of the country’s merchandis­e exports.

Earlier this month, government released official data saying Philippine exports of manufactur­ed goods rose by 15.5 percent to $3.1 billion in November 2012 from $2.7 billion in November 2011 due to recovery in electronic­s (13.3 percent), machinery and transport equipment (123.5 percent), wood manufactur­es (58.9 percent), and electronic equipment and parts (44.6 percent).

Socioecono­mic Planning Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan noted that the growth in exports of electronic­s products came from semiconduc­tors (15.5 percent), office equipment (266.4 percent), control and instrument­ation (983.4 percent), telecommun­ication (269.7 percent), and automotive electronic­s (131.8 percent).

"The growth in semiconduc­tors sales followed the 2-percent annual increase of global chip sales in November 2012. This marks the electronic­s industry’s recovery following a series of contractio­ns in the initial months of 2012,” the Cabinet official said.
