Ikenobo Manila to celebrate 3oth anniversary
IN CELEBRATION of the 30th Anniversary of Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Manila, a three-day seminar-workshop on classical as well as Jiyuka and the latest trends on Ikenobo Ikebana for members only will be conducted by a visiting professor, Takashi Moribe, courtesy of Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Floral Arts based in Kyoto, Japan.
This will be held Feb. 20-22 at Century Hall, with the cooperation of Quezon Memorial Circle Administration of Quezon City.
Members’ floral artworks will be exhibited Feb. 24-26, 10 a.m.-9 p.m., at the Atrium, with the cooperation of Edsa Shangri-La Mall, Mandaluyong City, and will be open to the public with lecturedemonstrations.
On the 25th, demonstrators are Dr. Jun Balderama and professor Mett Metilla, while on the 26th, demonstrators are professors Joyce M. Kato and Dr. Divina Lupe Lazaro, at 3-6 p.m.
Instead of the usual ribbon-cutting ceremony, the striking of the gong will be performed based on traditional Buddhist ritual. Invited to formally open the exhibits are Madame Urabe, wife of the Japanese ambassador, Mrs. Benhur Abalos, wife of the Mayor of Mandaluyong City, and Lala Fojas of Shangri-La Mall administration.
Ikebana is considered part of Japanese culture. The Embassy of Japan, with the cooperation of Podium, will be sponsoring Moribe’s demonstration, Ikebana Appreciation, open free to the public on Feb. 23, 2-5 p.m., at 2/F, Podium, ADB Ave., Pasig City.

Moribe started the study of Ikenobo Ikebana in 1972 at age 20. In 1991, he completed the Special Advanced Course in Classic Rikka at Ikenobo Central Training Institute in Kyoto. After having completed the Advanced Course in Modern Rikka, he is now appointed visiting professor for other countries.
Moribe has already conducted workshops and exhibitions not only in Japan but in almost all countries in North and South America, Australia, Canada, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
