COCA-COLA SUPPORTS RED CROSS MILLION VOLUNTEER RUN, NOW ON ITS SECOND YEAR
RED CROSS Secretary general Gwendolyn Pang, Red Cross governor Mabini Pablo, Coca-Cola Philippines public affairs and communications director Adel Tamano, Red Cross chair Richard Gordon and Coca-Cola Philippines community affairs Trisha Icasiano are shown joining hands during the recent Red Cross Million Volunteer Run. The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in partnership with Coca-Cola recently gathered close to seven hundred thousand runners in the 2nd Million Volunteer Run (MVR-2), in a bid to raise funds for volunteer training and new life-saving equipment. The event, which had the theme Run to Save Lives happened simultaneously in 78 Philippine cities, being an attempt to land in the Guinness Records as the largest mass running event in the world. What began as a celebration of the International Year of Volunteers in 2011 with 450,000 runners, has signifi
cantly progressed, mobilizing greater mass from individual to corporate partners. As part of the company’s support, Coca-Cola also allocated race
slots for 800 runners from Metro Manila high schools as a partner of the Philippine Red Cross in its various programs for disaster relief, blood donation, and basic life support training. “We are witness to PRC’s commitment towards extending their humanitarian services, especially in a country
prone to calamities,” says Tamano.
