New refs keep food cool at lower costs

Samsung’s latest refrigerators are chockfull of energyefficient features, including a shelf for fragrances, cosmetics

THERE ARE some things we can be frivolous about, like buying that wildly inappropriate top or that nth pair of flipflops, because they are relatively inexpensive. But when it comes to home appliances, we tend to be more purposeful—quality is always key.

“Homeowners are now more informed when it comes to purchasing big-ticket appliances like refrigerators. They want units that are energy-efficient, given that electricity rates in the country are some of the highest in the world. They want to be able to save money in the long run,” said Melchor E. Zapanta Jr., product leader for Samsung’s home appliances division.

Samsung refrigerators are the most saleable items in the brand’s range of digital home appliances, followed by air-conditioners and washing machines, he added.

At the launch of Samsung’s new line of refrigerators, members of the press were able to check out the six No-Frost Inverter units that boast several category firsts.

Intelligent compressor

The most notable feature is the superior digital inverter compressor that strengthens durability and improves energy efficiency. This intelligent compressor automatically adjusts across five speeds of RPM, in response to various cooling demands.

Whether due to frequent door openings, a hot plate of food or outside temperature changes, the groundbreaking compressor can either rapidly or slowly provide cold air to reduce energy consumption. This way, temperature is kept constant so that food remains fresh.

To ensure the unit’s durability, Samsung backs up its new No-Frost Inverter Refrigerator compressor with a 10-year warranty, another first in its category.

New units will be rolled out this year, Zapanta said, with new finishes. “Samsung is in the process of finalizing the stainless finish on these units because this is considered the more premium finish.”

Instead of simply outfitting the refrigerators with traditional shelves and racks, Samsung considers the consumer demand for smart storage space—another major requirement of homeowners, Zapanta said.

The new units have an Easy Slide shelf that makes storing and removing food effortless. Door shelves have also been widened to accommodate bottles and jars in different sizes, a detachable multi-storage basket to hold medicines or cosmetics and fragrances that need refrigeration.

Some of the No-Frost Inverter Refrigerator’s other features include a Moist Fresh Zone, which controls air circulation to obtain optimal humidity; a Coolpack that keeps the freezer cool for up to eight hours in case of a power outage; and a Power Cool button that can fast-freeze or fast-chill food when needed.
