Peninsula Manila raises money to battle breast cancer

-

SINCE opening on Sept. 14, 1976, The Peninsula Manila has strived to make a difference, and for nearly 37 years the hotel has worked with various organizations to promote social awareness and development whenever and wherever possible.

This is The Peninsula Manila’s philosophy of “Enriching Your Life,” which is drawn from The Peninsula Hotels corporate philosophy that “family heritage, tradition, community involvement and assured service are The Peninsula’s building blocks around the world, and each hotel shapes this foundation with its own inimitable style and personality.”

In this spirit, The Peninsula Manila general manager Sonja Vodusek donated P516,075.99, raised during the October 2012 Peninsula in Pink promotion, to the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care Inc. (PFBCI) on the occasion of its 12th anniversary.

In a simple ceremony held at the Tahan-Tahanan pediatric oncology ward of East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City, Vodusek turned over the amount raised to PFBCI president Maria Lourdes V. Cortez.

“Peninsula in Pink” was a campaign that ran throughout October 2012 with the intent to raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer. The event kicked off with the lighting in pink of the hotel’s majestic 44-foot fountain along Ayala Avenue to signal the start of the campaign, followed by a cocktail party with an auction of choice luxury items.

The Peninsula Manila also lined up several pink-themed promotions, including afternoon teas, a specially designed pink ribbon pin and delectable pink tapas and cocktails, with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting PFBCI.

PFBCI is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2001. Dedicated to serving mostly indigent patients by sourcing financial assistance and providing emotional support, PFBCI is a donor-supported institution accredited by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification.
