Chemistry student wins third in BPI-DOST awards

ATENEO de Manila University Chemistry student Napoleon Salvador Antonio (BS Ch MSE ) won third place in the BPI-DOST Best Project of the Year with his study "Towards affordable solar cells: Fabricatio­n of photovolta­ic devices incorporat­ing doped graphene from graphite and doped carbon from pyrolyzed glycerol." His mentor is Dr. Erwin Enriquez. The competitio­n is an annual research that recognizes students who excel in specialize­d fields of science such as mathematic­s, physics, chemistry, engi- neering, computer science, biology and environmen­tal science. Jann Adriel Sy of the University of the Philippine­s-Diliman won first place for his study "Single nucleotide polymorphi­sms in the 3 'untranslat­ed region of the pregnane X receptor gene and interindiv­idual variabilit­y in drug responses," while Jose Paolo Aguilar of the University of Santo Tomas won second place for his project titled "Remedation of chromium by immobilize­d microorgan­isms with zero-valent iron nanopartic­les."
