Chemistry student wins third in BPI-DOST awards
ATENEO de Manila University Chemistry student Napoleon Salvador Antonio (BS Ch MSE ) won third place in the BPI-DOST Best Project of the Year with his study "Towards affordable solar cells: Fabrication of photovoltaic devices incorporating doped graphene from graphite and doped carbon from pyrolyzed glycerol." His mentor is Dr. Erwin Enriquez. The competition is an annual research that recognizes students who excel in specialized fields of science such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, engi- neering, computer science, biology and environmental science. Jann Adriel Sy of the University of the Philippines-Diliman won first place for his study "Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the 3 'untranslated region of the pregnane X receptor gene and interindividual variability in drug responses," while Jose Paolo Aguilar of the University of Santo Tomas won second place for his project titled "Remedation of chromium by immobilized microorganisms with zero-valent iron nanoparticles."
