UST Student Awards Day recognizes outstanding students
UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) held its Student Awards Day on March 15 at the Plaza Mayor to recognize its finest academic achievers, student leaders and organizations for the academic year 2012-2013. Medals and certificates were awarded to outstanding students under the following categories: the Rector’s Academic Award for the University’s recognition of consistent academic excellence; the Pope Leo XIII Community Development Award for a student or group of students with outstanding involvement in community development programs; the Quezon Leadership Award for a deserving officer of a duly recognized organization of the University for his singular ability to lead and organize activities of meaningful significance to the entire University other than community service; the St. Dominic de Guzman Award for a student or student organization with outstanding performance in organizing activities that are of significance to the entire University, and the Benavides Outstanding Achievement Award for students whose performance in competitions, conferences or congresses symbolizes the university’s commitment to excellence. Rev. Fr. Herminio V. Dagohoy, O.P., UST rector, delivered the welcome message and awarded the Rector’s Academic Award medals while Rev. Fr. Winston F. Cabading, O.P. introduced the guest speaker, Jeffrey Ochoa Tarayao, Meralco chief CSR officer and president of One Meralco Foundation. Tarayao was a cum laude graduate of the Communication Arts program of the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters in 2001.
