National Children’s Book Reading Day observed

BDO FOUNDATION and volunteers from Banco de Oro branches joined for the third time the celebratio­n of National Children’s Book Reading Day.

The event was held simultaneo­usly in 47 SM malls in key cities nationwide, including five in China— Xiamen, Jinjang, Chengdu, Suzhon and Chongqing.

It was organized by SM Supermalls and SM Cares Children’s Committee, headed by Royston Cabuñag, with partners from the National Book Developmen­t Board (NBDB), Vibal Publishing and the Department of Education (DepEd).

City Vice Mayor Jose Fabian Cadiz was the guest of honor at the launch at The Atrium of SM City Marikina. Other guests were executives and officers of NBDB, SM Cares, Vibal Publishing, the DepEd and BDO Foundation, led by president Maureen Abelardo, trustee Jesus Tirona and program director Rose Espinosa.

Singer/composer Noel Cabangon, Azkals team manager Dan Palami and BDO volunteer reader from SM Marikina branch Dennis Centeno read three different books published by Vibal Publishing.

BDO volunteers from the 47 branches nationwide also taught the kids basic financial literacy.

The event aimed to develop the habit of reading, instill proper values and teach basic financial literacy among school children. At the end of the launch, children received tokens and ecobags donated by BDO Foundation.
