GSIS members need only go to nearest ATM

-

GOVERNMENT Service Insurance System (GSIS) members may obtain their retirement, life insurance, survivorship and preneed benefits via e-credit through their e-Cards orUMIDcards beginning today, Oct. 14, GSIS president and general manager Robert G. Vergara announced.

“[These] GSIS members will no longer have to wait for their claim checks to be printed, deposited and cleared before they could be cashed in the bank. Claim proceeds will now be electronically credited to their accounts. This ensures the timely release of benefits to our members and gives them the option to withdraw the amount from the nearest ATM,” said Vergara in a statement.

This is the third batch of benefits the GSIS is e-crediting to members and pensioners. The first batch e-credited tomembers’ accountswere the proceeds from consolidated loans, emergency loans, pension loans and policy loans.

The second set of benefits to be electronically released comprised the monthly oldage, disability and survivorship pensions. E-crediting GSIS pensions has solved the longstanding problem of lost checks.

To be e-credited starting today are proceeds from the following claims: Retirement, cash surrender value, maturity, preneed, survivorship and death, funeral and disability claims, and accident benefits.

Checks, however, will still be issued to claimants who are neither members nor pensioners and have no e-Card.

“The electronic crediting of GSIS claims is yet another move to provide responsive service to our members. It is expected to make the process twice as fast as the traditional check issuance and substantially cuts down administrative costs,” Vergara said.

For information on the e-crediting of claims, members may call the GSIS Contact Center at 8474747.
