‘Daang matuwid’ potholed with plenty of bias and selective justice

SENATE PRESIDENT Franklin Drilon has been sued for plunder. It’s always amazing to watch when some of President Aquino’s people get accused of the same crimes as his favorite target, former President Gloria Arroyo. I say some of President Aquino’s people because there has been more than one P-Noy KKK ( kaklase, kabarkada, kabarilan), Cabinet member or appointee who not only has run into some legal trouble but has actually broken the law.

We’ve seen a Cabinet member in possession of illegal firearms and “pirated” DVDs, as well as a presidential appointee in a “gambling arcade” and KKKs committing some form of corruption—whether it be graft or, in Drilon’s case, plunder.

Arroyo is in detention for plunder, albeit a plunder case that has yet to be justified and supported with actual evidence. Arroyo just got another plunder case, thanks to Malacañang and Mr. Aquino’s justice secretary, Leila de Lima. But even this new plunder case involving the Malampaya Fund seems to lack evidence. They keep accusing Arroyo of plunder but fail to support their charges with solid proof. Despite the lack of evidence, Arroyo is kept in detention and President Aquino is more than happy and gloats about her continuing incarceration.

But now that it is his ally Drilon facing a plunder case, Mr. Aquino is just more than happy to stay silent and obviously doesn’t have the same “vocal energy” as he does in denouncing the alleged plunder by Arroyo.

Maybe it’s too early to assume that President Aquino will cover up Drilon’s plunder and keep him from jail, but then again maybe the cover-up has already begun. When a case is filed against Arroyo, it is done with unusual speed to ensure she gets jailed for it within hours after the filing; in Drilon’s case, it’s more than a week since the case was filed but he still enjoys his power over the Senate, with the support of President Aquino.
