Search for best financial education teachers launched

THE DEPARTMENT of Education and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas have launched a national search for teachers who effectivel­y teach students the value of savings and financial education.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the search would officially start this month and end in January.

The top three national winners will each receive P100,000 in cash, amedal and a computer with printer. The schools of the national winners will each receive a projector with screen.

Guro ng Pag-asa (Gantimpala para sa Ulirang Pagtuturo ng Pag-iimpok at Araling Pansalapi) will honor teachers who exhibit exemplary dedication in developing the habit of saving in Edukasyon sa Pagpakatao (ESP), Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuha­yan (EPP) and Araling Panlipunan (AP) using teaching guides.

The search is open to public elementary school teachers handling ESP, EPP and AP, and have been using the teaching guides on financial education for at least one school year. Principals and school heads or the district supervisor may nominate.

There will be 12 national finalists: three from Luzon, three from the Visayas, three from Mindanao and three from theNationa­l Capital Region.

All national finalists will each receive P50,000 and certificat­es of recognitio­n. Their respective schools will be given plaques of recognitio­n.

A special prize of P10,000 will be awarded to the student or the class that initiated a sustained savings program that promotes financial education and entreprene­urial activities in school or at home.
