Big NCA derby unfolds

ANOTHER set of slam-bang battles is expected as the National Cockers Alliance (NCA) derby series resumes today at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The derby, sponsored by Sagupaan Complexor, is hosted by former Rizal governor Ito Ynares, former Secretary Ronaldo Puno, and Phil Sy.

The hosts have invited guest cockers Jun Arcilla, Boy Torres, Mayor Elyong Hernandez, Manny Kho, and lawyer Rey Directo to face off with the NCA members.

Also seeing action are NCA top guns Lito Orillaza, JR Tolentino, Firefly Group, Mario Villamor, Edwin Tose, Jun Topacio, R. Gatchalian, Atong Ang, Osang dela Cruz, Procis Aquino, Manny and Armand Santos, Ruel Ricafort, Pol Estrellado, Vic Amante, Arnold Mendoza, Rep. Patrick Antonio, Cesar Dy, Tonton Uy, Jose Panganiban, Edgar Santos, Elan Nagano, Jun Soriano, Nestor Mercado, Victor Yap, Pipo Soliman, Efren Canlas, Jet Fernando, Jun and Rudy Jingco, Claude Bautista, Bebot Uy, Peter Unabia, Jun Diamante, and Rene Medina. THIRTY-SEVEN more elimination rounds have been scheduled as the NFGB “Hari ng Rueda” 8-Cock Derby goes full blast this month.

The popular series attracted 149 entries last week.

The battles will be fought on Feb. 11 at Tarlac Amusement Center and Texas Cockpit Arena; Feb. 12 at San Fernando, La Union, San Nicolas, Ilocos Sur, and Octagon Cockpit Iloilo, Feb. 13 at Sta. Maria, Bulacan; Feb. 14 at Antipolo Coliseum, Arcontica Cockpit, NewTarlac Coliseum and RGG Center Bacolod;

National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders executive director Arnel Anonuevo said the guaranteed prize has topped P5 million.

The rest of the schedule: Feb. 15 at Malvar Sports Complex, Bayombong Cockpit, Dinalupihan Coliseum, New Negros Coliseum, Dumaguete Cockpit, Aquino Coliseum, Sibalom Coliseum, New Alkor Gallera, Zamboanga Square Garden, JNY Sports Complex, and Dipolog Coliseum.

Metro Manila eliminations: Feb. 17 at Pasay cockpit, Feb. 19 (New Mandaluyong Coliseum) and Feb. 16 and 20 (Roligon).
