DLSU holds 2nd interactive discourse for administrators and educators

-

THE DE La Salle University hosted the 2nd Interactive Discourse for Administrators and Educators Seminar (IDEAS) last Jan. 22 at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall. Invited speakers were Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Awardee and National Book Award winner Dr. Tereso Tullao Jr. and media personality and youth icon Bianca Gonzalez.

Administrators and educators from all over Metro Manila attended IDEAS to learn more tools that will help them become more competitive and competent in their profession. This annual administrations and educators’ seminar aims to encourage those in the field of education to foster a sense of love for learning.

Tullao is a former dean of DLSU’s College of Business and Economics. He also holds an MA in Law and Diplomacy and Ph.D in International Economics from Tufts University and Stanford University respectively. His talk, “Teacher-tested-Ways to Make Class More Fun and Interesting,” gives practical and experience-based insights on how educators can draw students’ attention and make them more receptive to learning even the most difficult or technical concepts.

Bianca Gonzalez, a well-respected youth icon, delivered “Trending Topic: Social Media Habits Teens Can’t Break.” Gonzalez explored social media trends in order to make educators understand how new technological innovations on the Internet such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram has led to much cultural change among the youth.

Discussing these changes is expected to lead to more accessibility and respectful exchanges between educators and students.

TIP students swing into high gear for Shell Eco-marathon Asia

STUDENTS from various engineering programs of the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) are in full gear for the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2014. Four student teams from TIP, together with 146 other student teams from 16 countries across Asia and Middle East, put into concrete practice the scientific knowledge and engineering skills they have acquired in school in order to find innovative ways to achieve smarter mobility and reduce the impact of energy consumption on the environment. As a result, TIP students were able to design and build four energy efficient vehicles that are set to hit the streets of Manila for the said annual mileage competition. Shell Ecomarathon is an annual educational racing competition to challenge students from around the world to design, build, and test ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. This unique competition started first in the Americas, then in Europe and Asia. Unlike the usual car race, competition winners are not determined by speed, but by the farthest distance traveled on the least amount of fuel. Last school year, TIP students joined the same competition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. TIPMileage Team, one of the two teams sent by TIP, ranked third in Asia for the prototype diesel category with 164 km/l mileage record, making TIP’s vehicle entry as themost fuel efficient diesel prototype car in the Philippines. Shell Eco-marathon Asia also gave its first “Best Team Spirit Award” to the same team for standing out with their collaborative spirit, positive dynamics and highly energized attitudes during the entire event.
