Nominations for 2014 UP Gawad Plaridel open
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) is accepting nominations for the annual UP Gawad Plaridel.
Deadline isMarch 31. The awardee will be announced in May and the awarding will be held in July, during the commemoration of Marcelo H. del Pilar’s death anniversary.
The Gawad Plaridel recipient will receive a trophy designed by National Artist Napoleon Abueva and will deliver the Plaridel Lecture on the state and practice of Philippine media.
The award recognizes Filipinomedia practitioners who have excelled in media and have performed with the highest level of professional integrity in the interest of public service.
For 2014, the 10th UP Gawad Plaridel, the award will be given to a transmedia practitioner (one who excels in at least two platforms).
The award is named after Del Pilar (also known as Plaridel), the selfless propagandist whose stewardship of the reformist newspaper La Solidaridad helped crystallize nationalist sentiment and ignite libertarian ideas in the 1890s. Like Plaridel, the award recipient must believe in the vision of a Philippine society that is egalitarian, participative and progressive; and in media that are socially responsible, critical and vigilant, liberative and transformative, and free and independent.
All living Filipino individuals who have excelled in at least twomedia platforms are eligible. Aside from probity and integrity, they must have produced a body of work marked by excellence and social relevance and must have achievements recognized nationally and/or internationally.
Individuals and institutions may submit nominations. Previous nominees may still be considered for this year’s award. All current full-time faculty and staff of UP CMC are disqualified.
The UP Gawad Plaridel awardee will have a place of honor at all ceremonies and functions of the CMC. His/her photograph will hang at the UP Gawad Plaridel Gallery in the college’smain lobby.
