21st Iligan National Writers Workshop now open for applicatio­ns

APPLICATIO­NS are now being accepted to the 21st Iligan National Writers Workshop (INWW) to be held May 26-30 in Iligan City.

The workshop is organized by the Mindanao Creative Writers Group, Inc., Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology's Office of Publicatio­n and Informatio­n, and Department of English, College of Arts & Social Sciences

Fifteen writing fellowship­s are available, five each for Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao.

Applicants are required to submit any of the following: creative nonfiction in English; a five-poem folio; one short story or excerpt of a novel; a one-act play—in Fil- ipino, English, Sebuano, Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, Waray, Chabacano, or Higaunon (with English or Filipino translatio­ns).

Applicants must include their biodata, two 2x2 photos and a certificat­ion that the manuscript is original. They should submit a hard copy and a CD with the manuscript­s encoded in MS Word (font: Arial; size: 11; space: 1.5).

Those submitting excerpts of novels or works in progress must provide a onepage summary of the novel. Unpublishe­d works are preferred and applicants who have attended regional workshops are given priority.

Writing fellows will be given free board and lodging, and a (socialized) travel allowance. Applicatio­ns must be postmarked on or before March 25. No applicatio­n sent by fax or e-mail will be accepted. Applicants are also advised to keep copies of their manuscript­s since these will not be returned.
