Graduate scholarshi­p in Japan

AJINOMOTO Philippine­s Corp. (APC) is accepting applicatio­ns for its graduate scholarshi­p program at the University of Tokyo in Japan. Deadline for applicatio­n is March 21.

The annual grant is given to deserving Filipino students who are in need of financial support, a chance to pursue graduate education at the prestigiou­s university.

The chosen candidate can major in any field of science and technology. He or she can enroll first in a one-year research program and continue on to a two-year master’s program or directly enroll in a two-year master’s program.

APC has sent four Filipino scholars to Japan since the grant was launched. The first recipient in 2010, Giselle Grace Lim, graduated with a master’s degree in applied biological chemistry. The following years, Karen Tan and Melvin Charles Dy pursued graduate degrees in natural products chemistry and applied computer studies, respective­ly.

The last Filipino scholar sent to Japan was Rogie Royce Carandang, a graduate of industrial pharmacy and public health from the University of the Philippine­s-Manila. He is now a research student at Tokyo University’s Graduate School of Agricultur­al and Life Sciences. Apart from learning from some of the world’s best instructor­s, he is also given access to research facilities, exclusive science conference­s and other learning opportunit­ies.
